What is the Firehouse?

The Firehouse is a four-plex(building with four two-bedroom apartments) located in the inner city of Kansas City, KS. We purchased this building July 1, 2005 and have been living in it since then.

Why is it called "the Firehouse"?

The Firehouse name stemmed greatly from a time in prayer, when a small child was seen in the corner of a burning building, crying out for help. A man was seen walking, unharmed through the flames. He reached out and lifted the tiny child up into his arms, held her close, wiped her tears, protected her from the flames and carried her out of the fire to safety. We pray that one of our main purposes would be that through a life devoted to worship, service and loving Him that we would all have Jesus' heart for the broken and lost; to be able to at any and all times, be prepared and ready to have the boldness to step into the flames of this world, where others might normally be afraid to go, to reach out loving arms and to help save as many as possible from the fire so that the light of His love will shine into and shatter every and all dark places.

What is our current mission at the Firehouse?

Our current mission is two-fold. First, we want to reach the people on our street. Because the Firehouse is on a cul-de-sac, we are in a perfect place to reach the community. There are seven other four-plexes on our street which are filled with residents. The community aspect flourishes as those around here spend much time outside conversing with friends and other residents in the area. In order to reach those on our street, we spend time outside playing with the children. We have a large front yard which gives us space to play with them. We are seeking ways to develop relationships with the adults around us so please pray for this aspect. We have hosted community activities such as a neighborhood BBQ in hopes to assure those around us that we are friendly.

The second part of our mission is to reach the homeless in Kansas City. Because we only live in two apartments in the Firehouse, we have two remaining apartments for use. It has been very fascinating to see how God provides the needy for us to help. Thus far we have almost always had someone in both of the units. It is an awesome blessing to have these places to offer assistance to those in need.
